Having Your Cake And Eat It

I watched The Layer Cake at the cinema the other day, my enjoyment was enhanced by the emptiness of the theatre, no chattering, rustling or mobile phones going off.

Contrary to the mixed reviews it has received The Layer Cake is a great film, combining many paradoxes successfully:
  • Shot in London but with a style that suggested Manhattan
  • Chav gangsters and real business men
  • Fast editing and instant gratification for the terminally thoughtless, but a twisting plot line for the thinkers
Imagine Michael Mann filming a UK version of Superfly and you have The Layer Cake.

Absolutely gorgeous.
