Got sent a link to Japander.com which features a lot of famous personalities doing bland or ridiculous ads for the Japanese marketplace. As the site defines the phrase Japander:
Japander:n.,& v.t. 1. a western star who uses his or her fame to make large sums of money in a short time by advertising products in Japan that they would probably never use. ~er (see synecure, prostitute) 2. to make an ass of oneself in Japanese media
These vary from Brad Pitt and Rolex to Timothy Dalton hamming it up for Lark cigarettes and Sean Connery promoting Japanese whisky!?* Obviously the Beckham's many advertising performances need no introduction or comment. Absolute class. Apparently spoilsport Leonardo DiCaprio and Meg Ryan have used industrial strength lawyers letters to keep themselves from being exposed, but we know they took the money and made the ads anyway.
